I could talk about the many beautiful Christmas’s I have spent with my family. I could tell you how my daughter’s face lights up when she opens her presents on Christmas Eve. I could mention the golden turkey falling of the bone, the laced eggnog and the decadent pie. But I think we should talk about some of America’s greatest and bravest—Firefighters.

Let’s face it the pay is not good. People aren’t always nice or grateful to them. Yet they choose to put their lives on the line every day. Some give up their holidays while others pay the ultimate price for anyone that needs help.

Here is a story of firefighters that went beyond the call of duty:

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Fruitridge firefighters rushed to the rescue of an elderly woman hurt while she was putting up her Christmas decorations on Sunday.

Margie Hinkle, 83, was assisting her husband, George, in hanging the Christmas lights on their home when she tripped and fell down.

The Hinkles were stringing the last set of lights when the accident occurred.

Firefighters from station 56 arrived to assist Margie, and they went beyond the call of duty by helping George hang the rest of their lights.

The Hinkles thanked the firefighters with cookies and other goodies Monday for assisting her and for helping her husband finish putting up the Christmas lights.

Margie is a two-time cancer survivor and said she will be more careful in the future but will not stop being independent.

This story touched my heart because beautiful stories such as these are what make the season bright.
