Ryssa's 2012 Observations

by Ryssa Edwards

Okay, so here’s the funny thing about writing. Writers can time travel. You’re reading this today, the first day of 2012, the year the Mayans say we’re all going to be toast, but I’m writing it in 2011.

What to say on New Year’s Day?

I think I’m supposed to look back and say what a spectacular year it was. Or maybe I’m supposed to look ahead and say what a great year it’s going to be.

Last year was amazing. It’s going to be pretty hard to top that one, but here are my top ten thoughts for 2012:

10. Find a calendar that I can carry around, doesn’t weigh down my purse, and sends a not-so-mild electric shock through me when I’m coming up on a deadline.
9. Go somewhere I’ve never been before. Maybe that interesting side alley I drive by sometimes. Hmmm.
8. Say something I’ve never said before. Even if no one hears me. Just put it out there. 7. Look up at the sky and be amazed.
6. Finish that blanket I’ve been knitting for two years!
5. Write a book that makes my readers say, “Ahhh. . . Wish it didn’t have to end”
4. When I feel like I’m in over my head. . . lift it up
3. Read at least one new author a month
2. Remember that life is not fishing. . . if I have to haul it in . . . maybe I should let it go
1.Live . . . laugh . . . and remember why we’re all here on this little ball of water and stone, floating among the stars.

It’s a pretty short list. There are 86,400 seconds in a day. Today is the first day of a new year. That means I have about 31,449,600 seconds left to sort out my list. Or maybe I shouldn’t sort it, because life has a way of happening, doesn’t it?
It’s time for me to step into my time machine, travel back to Christmas Eve 2011, and . . . work on that blanket!
Let me be the first to welcome you to 2012 with the wish that it’s the best year of your life.

What’s on your top ten list for 2012?

  1. Happy New Year to you too! What's on my top ten list? Finishing a story that's been bugging me for months. There are too many characters and I can't sort the POVs out in my head. I keep putting it aside and I really want to finish it next time I open the file. BUT - it's not a New year's resolution - because I always break those. LOL

  2. Actually my list is simple. It consists of one main thing... To read more. I have sort of neglected my reading pile and that is not like me. So I am committing to reading at least 4 books a week. Yes, I am one of the lucky ones that is able to do that...LOL

    Happy New Year!!!

  3. My list only has a few things on it: stop cursing (with three teenagers in the house it's hard), read more, get a new job, and try to stay in touch with people better.

    Happy New Year!!

  5. I don't have too many goals...
-Learn that it's okay to say NO and not feel guilty for it.
-Don't be such a doormat, have more of a backbone.
-Read more books outside my usual genres.
-Comment more on blogs. I tend to be too quiet and need to be more vocal.

And I too have to put up a new calendar for 2012. Hopefully I'll accomplish that before the end of the week.

  6. My main thing is to read more. Not to let day to day life get so overloaded that each day gets away without some time to read. There is so much to a persons daily life that we have the tendency to let it slip away without finding that warm safe place where life is special and unique in its own way...*S*
Happy New Year to one and All!
    Thank you for the giveaway...*S*

  7. Wow, some of the items on your list would make mine. I would think one of the things on my list would be to duct tape my inner critics mouth. She's a little too vocal.

    Happy New Year!

  8. My first laugh of the day, and I loved your list, Ryssa. It's taking time for the little things that I like to keep at the top of my list. Plus less time on the computer, and more reading would be one of my goals too.

    1. Be healthier (eat better, exercise more, lose weight)
    2. Spend more time with my family
    3. Read More
    4. Find a job I can do with my medical problems & restrictions
